Veterinary Technician

The veterinary technician is an integral member of the veterinary health care team who has been educated in the care and handling of animals, the basic principles of normal and abnormal life processes, and in routine laboratory and clinical procedures. All veterinary technicians work under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian. While a veterinary technician can assist in performing a wide variety of tasks, they cannot diagnose, prescribe, perform surgery, or engage in any activity prohibited by a state's practice act.

In Private Practice
A veterinary technician employed in a veterinary clinic or hospital handles many of the same responsibilities that nurses and other professionals perform for physicians. They are trained to:

Obtain and record patient case histories
Collect specimens and perform laboratory procedures
Provide specialized nursing care
Prepare animals, instruments, and equipment for surgery
Assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures
Expose and develop radiographs
Advise and educate animal owners
Supervise and train practice personnel
Perform dental prophylaxis

New Hope Animal Hospital only employs certified technicians that have a degree in animal science. Each certified technician has undergone and passed a rigorous state certification examination. Continuing education is required to maintain certification and ensures that our technicians can offer each pet the best in veterinary care. Our technicians will often speak to you when you call the clinic with a question about your pet.

Veterinary Assistants

Veterinary assistants are dedicated members of our staff. They are highly trained and motivated to assist fellow staff members. Without their help our hospital would be unable to achieve its goal of providing a lifetime of good health for your pet. Their duties include:

Assisting the technicians and veterinarians with medical procedures.
Making sure that all pets are properly fed, walked, and clean before going home.
Schedule boarding for all pets and make sure that all the information for their care is properly in place.
Observe all pets to make sure that they have the best of care while in our hospital or boarding facility.
Notifying a technician or veterinarian if your pet experiences any problems while in our care.

Many of our assistants have continued their studies to become nurses, veterinary technicians, medical doctors, and veterinarians. They provide the love and care that is so vital for the emotional and physical well being of each and every pet.

Client Care Representatives

Our client care representatives are among the most important members of our staff. Representing our hospital requires that these individuals be highly trained and motivated. It is their responsibility to assist you and your pet in any way they can. Their duties include:

Answering the phone and making sure that your questions are answered or transfered to the appropriate staff member.
Scheduling appointments.
Insure that appointments and information flow properly and in a timely manner.
Greet you with a smile and a hug when needed.
Hundreds of tasks never fully appreciated by the public and other staff members.

Our client care representatives will usually be the first voice you hear and the first and last smiling face you see. It is their duty and passion to be an important part of our team and help us deliver the best veterinary health care possible.
