New Hope Animal Hospital: Our Services: End of Life

End of Life

Many people have questions about the process of euthanasia. We can help you in assessing your pets quality of life and determining when it is time to say goodbye. We do not euthanize pets on demand.

We always try to make this difficult time as easy as possible for you and your pet. We will do our best to honor your wishes regarding every aspect of the euthanasia process. You are welcome to be with your pet and stay as long as you wish. Please be sure to let us know if there is anything we can do to make this process easier for you.

Most pets are given a sedative shortly after they arrive. This helps to reduce any pain or anxiety that they may be experiencing. We often place an intravenous catheter so that we have a secure and painless access for the euthanasia solution. The euthanasia solution itself is a general anesthetic, causing rapid and peaceful sleep. The high dose of anesthetic will cause the heart to stop.

We offer pet cremation that can either be communal (with other pets) or individual cremation. If you elect individual cremation, your pets ashes will be returned to you. We have a number of urns available which one of our staff members will be happy to show you. We are always available to help you through this process.

Please call if you have any questions about any aspects of the euthanasia process.
